Four and Twenty Blackbirds

2 x 50cm x 50cm Acrylic on wood panel

Four and Twenty Blackbirds is a well known English nursery rhyme, dating back to at least the 18th century.

What stories are we telling our children today? and how are they different in respect to our connection with wildlife.

My diptych uses two panel's to expand its theme and meaning. Four birds on one panel and a further twenty birds on a second. The child's imagination is expanded from the anticipation of cutting the pie, to what it could reveal.

The wonderment of nature, to be discovered.

This painting was selected as part of the “Secondary meanings” exhibition curated by Dr Elaine Melotti Schmidt and Alan Bennet to be held at the Zhou B Art Center Chicago USA, on the 17th May 2019
